Reece Halsey founded a literary agency in 1957, paired with his wife Dorris. They represented some stellar literary lights, including Aldous Huxley, Henry Miller and Upton Sinclair. He died in 1980, and she carried on with the literary agency. It was thanks to her that Jeraldine Saunders was able to publish her novel The Love Boat, which gave rise to a television show that will live on in a way the author could not have envisioned.
In later years, Kimberley Cameron joined the company and became Mrs. Halsey's business partner. Dorris worked in the agency office almost every day until she passed away on 26 October. Ms. Cameron is an outstanding literary agent in her own right, keeping the company going forward and sending out the most pleasant and polite rejection letters.
May the road rise up to meet you, Dorris. May the wind be always at your back. And here's hoping that the devil didn't know you were dead until a half hour after you arrived in heaven.
